Here are 3 questions I answered from Nelson Mail, as Councillor and Mayoral candidate.

Further re-invest in our flood protection and stormwater infrastructure improvements. Reprioritize this, by repealing the outrageous $46m library project budgeted expenditure.

One a Community wellbeing committee focused on the mental and physical wellbeing of our community. Engaging with the various groups and organisations that provide such community wellbeing support and needs to feedback direct to council. The other a Community Advisory working group of community leaders and representatives to feed back to council directly to rebuild practical wisdom and trust between community and council. And to aid the recovery and revitalisation of our local business and development sector.

The government has been disingenuous in its promotion and talks with public and dealings with council over it. The proposal disenfranchises local governance, control and ownership of the most important asset that our community has built over generations. The proposed reform will greatly increase the cost to the taxpayer. The council and our ratepayers already very effectively maintain & strategically fund, and budget both through residential, commercial rating and development charges of these services both in our 10 year and 30 year long term strategic planning. Nelson has the very least of any city in NZ to gain from such a bureaucratic mega takeover.
